Census completion

September 16, 2016

Based on preliminary rates obtained directly from collection results (as of August 4, 2016), the overall response rate for the 2016 Census of Population is 98.4%, higher than each of the 2011 and 2006 Census programs! The collection response rate for the long form is 97.8%, the best ever recorded. This is great news, especially following the challenges associated with the voluntary National Household Survey response rate during the 2011 Census.
The first set of data on population and dwelling counts will be released in February 2017. In the same month, Statistics Canada will release geographic data such as reference maps and boundary files. A full release schedule can be seen here. ONS will try to make this data available at a neighbourhood level within 6 months of release.
